What? No Real Blog Post?

I know, I know.  How are you going to live with yourself?  Well, I have a good reason.  I am (hopefully) looking at something like this scene here.  I got married a few days ago and I am enjoying some time with my new beautiful bride in a place almost as beautiful as she is.

(Now say awwwwwww.)

But never fear, as I will be back next week with some more great blogs about market research and business.

Have a great week!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I hope you are all enjoying being with friends and family today and over the holidays.

We will see you next week!

Networking For Personal (And Business) Success

NetworkingIt all started with something I heard on a Tuesday morning. The phrase I heard was on the subject of networking. Although not a verbatim quote, the phrase was “By increasing your network, you are also increasing your net worth.” Wow! Brilliant! I never thought about a network equating to a financial value.

It was so good, that I had to tweet it out almost immediately. I then added a simple comment, “What are you doing to increase both?” It got a few good re-tweets and comments back within a short period of time. One person replied stating “making introductions..expanding other people’s networks..everybody should make introductions everyday!” Another said “being selfless in helping others to grow their networks is key. It always comes back around.”

Using Mobile In Market Research

Note: I hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day as much as I did. Since we took the day off, so did the blog. But never fear, it was just a day delayed.

Everywhere I go, I hear more reasons of why companies and individuals need to go mobile. How you go mobile is based on you, the business and industry you are in, and the time you have available to commit to it. Read more of this post

Why you should do market research before you start your business.

I grow my business through networking. It is a requirement for me to be successful as there is not a lot of people Google-ing “market research Raleigh” in a given month (I’ve checked it and it’s only about 150 per month).

During the networking opportunities with those with complementary businesses, I get often get the question of “What is your ideal client?” I typically smile at this because, unfortunately in my mind, they are not out there. However, I did meet one last week. My ideal client is someone wanting to start a new business and wanting to do it right. “Right” is doing research immediately after concept but before doing anything else. The below is a great representation.

Concept Implementation Model
Many new business owners and entrepreneurs do not do any market research. They are tacticians. In other words, they are good at what they do, whether it is running a restaurant, building homes, or developing the latest tech widget.

The idea of doing market research at the beginning of the process can help confirm or refocus

  • You beliefs about your concept
  • Your intended target market
  • Your marketing/advertising program

Have you ever done market research before you started an idea or business? If you did not and did some afterwards, did you wish you had?

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

I hope you are all enjoying being with friends and family over this holiday.

I will be spending the next week enjoying mine, so there will not be any blog post next week.  But do not worry, the post will be back on January 2nd.

The first two blogs of the new year will be a look back at 2011 and a look into 2012.

We will see you in 2012!
